Kinect Sports

Kinect Sports is one of the first games to be released for the Xbox 360 Kinect system. Kinect is an add-on for Xbox 360 consoles. It was created in order to compete with the Nintendo Wii System. The difference between the two is the motion sensor camera versus the Wii controllers. With Kinect players do not have to worry about wired or wireless controllers. They can just play the game. All the motion of the body, hands, feet, head, and more is used in order to earn points and get through a game with success.

The sports game was created by Rare with the publisher as Microsoft Game Studios. It was released on 4 November, 10 November, and 18 November, 2010. As a sports game it has single and multiplayer modes, with an ESRB rating of E10+.

The sports included in Kinect Sports are bowling, boxing, track and field, table tennis, football, and beach volleyball. Bowling offers a ten pin game in the first person perspective. In bowling there are solo and two to four player matches. There is also a challenge mode to make the game more interesting.

Boxing is all about a three round match for one or two players. In single mode the opponent will be the computer in the game. It is possible to play split screen or with Xbox Live. Track and Field is one of the most elaborate sports within the game. Players can do hurdles, javelin, sprint, discus throw, or the long jump. All of the game play occurs in Flame Stadium. There is also a pentathlon mode that can be played by a single player. With track and field it is possible to compete against the game or with other friends. When competing with friends the game is more exciting since there are others there to win against.

Table Tennis is another solo or doubles option. The matches occur in Blade Centre, a fictional centre for sports. In this game mode there are challenge modes to unlock hidden challenges and moves to make the game more interesting.

Football is actually soccer in Kinect Sports. Football can be played in solo or two player mode. With solo play the computer has a controlled team. With two players it is a co-operative or competitive game meaning you can play with the second player on your team against the computer or play against that person. There is a skill based challenge mode to add to the football options.

In Beach Volleyball it is also single or two player like Football. With volleyball it can be played in split screen or with Xbox Live. The choice is all up to the player. So far the sports version for Kinect has received many rave reviews as one of the better games for players.

The fact that the game has several different sports to play adds to the reception it has received. It is also a game that requires the entire body to be used in order to win the challenge.
